The subject introduces passive design principles in Tropical Architecture. This module will showcase examples of sustainable design from different parts of Asia from both past and present for contrast and comparison. The building technologies discussed will include the traditional and the current with emphasis on how materials are used in solving environmental problems.

Project Brief
The main aim of this project was to suggest proposals to improve the 2nd Prototype S-House design. Findings and evaluations of Vietnamese Indigenous Architecture had to be studied in order to propose the influences and whether it can be adopted into a current contemporary house.

Skills and Learning Experiences
Overall, I learnt and gained so many skills from this project. Learning about Vietnamese Indigenous Architecture was really new to me and I had to do thorough research on the different materials and constructions based on the S-House.
In this project, Task A helped me to state the advantages and disadvantages of the materials used and what other new materials can be easily sourced and to replaced the current materials. It really helped with the process of doing Task B as I already had in mind of what could be suggested and changed in terms of structure and materials.
Working together with my group was definitely a beneficial process as we could come together to share ideas on making the house better or areas we overlooked as individuals. The effective communication and great teamwork helped the group to complete the project on time. I struggled with the formatting of my Task B report and drawings but my groupmates were able to assist me. In short, this project was really applicable to the topics we had learnt in class and how we can use these skills in our future.
